Destiny 2’s Community Is Begging For Escalation Protocol Matchmaking
It has been quite some time since I last wrote about Destiny. Today I wanted to discuss some of its end game content. Specifically, why Trials of Osiris is brilliant and what unexpected effects it has had on the community. Destiny has taken a lot of flack recently because of the few ways to gain the highest-level gear. The best way is the Raid Challenge modes, where players do a particularly difficult boss encounter a certain way to be rewarded with extra max level loot. The difficulty with having the end game content being against computers is that people can out smart them. There are endless strategy guides and how-tos, which walk the players through the entire raid. This makes it considerably easier to finish when they know exactly what is going to happen and when it is going to happen. Then there is Trials of Osiris. Trials came about in the House of Wolves Expansion pack the second expansion pack in early

Today, Bungie took to Twitch and other sources around the interwebs to showcase the new endgame activity for Destiny, the Prison of Elders. The new mode allows for a few ways to play in terms of difficulty. During the livestream, a display of the new location, The Reef, gave us a look at four ways to get down and dirty with the activity all staged for different levels of challenge.
It was expressed that the base version is a level 28 random activity in the Prison of Elders that allows matchmaking and can be played as many times as desired for constant reward.

There are four pieces of downloadable content DLC that were released for Bungie ‘s first-person shooter video game Destiny. Each package of downloadable content added new player versus environment PvE missions and player versus player PvP modes, new locales to visit, and new items for the player to make use of. The third, The Taken King , was released in September and had the largest effect on the game, as it changed much of the core gameplay. In December , Destiny shifted to an event-based model, featuring more periodical limited-time events.
The fourth and last expansion called Rise of Iron released in September Although the first three downloadable content packs were available for all consoles that Destiny was originally released for PlayStation 3 , PlayStation 4 , Xbox , and Xbox One , the fourth expansion, Rise of Iron , is only available on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
As per an exclusivity agreement with Sony Interactive Entertainment , Destiny and all of its expansions featured timed exclusive content for the PlayStation versions. The timed exclusive content that was available at the launch of Destiny , as well as the exclusive content of the first two expansions, became available for Xbox when The Taken King launched.
Destiny 2 matchmaking not finding anyone
One of the more interesting features to be added into Destiny 2 via its recently launched Warmind DLC is a new type of endgame activity called Escalation Protocols. In theory, Escalation Protocols function as a special sort of outdoor endgame activity in which players fight off increasingly powerful waves of Hive enemies. In the eyes of the community, one slight tweak could potentially fix those headaches: Escalation Protocol matchmaking.

instead offering The Prison of Elders, a score-based survival arena. Now players can use matchmaking to find groups, raids are diverse in.
As guessed by numerous fans, Prison of Elders is a variation on the Horde mode first popularized years ago by Gears of War. In the storyline of House of Wolves, most of the Fallen soldiers that previously served the Queen of the Awoken have betrayed her, but one of the Fallen remained behind in the Reef and is still loyal. This Fallen character, named Variks, acts as a warden for the prison, and he engineers an opportunity for guardians to test their mettle within the dreaded detention facility.
Variks acts both as the central narrator for the Prison, but also as the vendor for rewards. Looking beyond the story setup, Prison of Elders is built as an end-game activity for three players. Each run at the Prison of Elders requires three players. A base level 28 version includes randomized rounds, bosses, and conditional effects, and this version allows for matchmaking, so you can play even without any of your friends online.
In any given week, the Prison of Elders also has three challenge versions available, and matchmaking is not provided.
How to survive in Destiny’s tough new ‘Prison of Elders’ mode
Jump to navigation. Most endgame activities in Destiny Nightfall Strikes, Raids, the Trials of Osiris PvP mode, the higher-level versions of Prison of Elders currently do not support matchmaking since they require the sort of coordination only an established group of players could attain. Even endgame activities that do support matchmaking, such as the Iron Banner PvP event, the lowest-difficulty tier of Prison of Elders, and Heroic Strikes, are so difficult to complete that throwing yourself to the mercy of the matchmaking system is a gamble where the odds are definitely not in your favor.
If there was more endgame content for solo-minded Destiny players to sink their teeth into, I doubt the game would be getting as much of a bad rap as it does now. A typical Prison of Elders match is made up of five rounds with each round awarding a small bit of faction reputation upon completion. I think a fair compromise would be to offer minor rewards for each round completed that went beyond a small bump in reputation; maybe a cache of Glimmer or some crafting materials or even the chance at a rare engram.
Rewards By far the biggest reason people will play the Prison of Elders is for the Amtchmaking. Defend the city in higher than 28 will not have matchmaking.
Yet lone wolf players still find it a struggle to access much of the high level content, simply because very little of it can be played alone, and the game purposely limits matchmaking options. Bungie seems firm on this point, and with only a few weeks until the launch of The Taken King , there has been no announcement to the contrary. Of all the Destiny debates to persist through Year 1, none is as polarizing as issues of matchmaking.
Both sides make strong arguments of support either way. Opposition is usually framed by the fact that some content, notably Temple of Osiris and raids , would be brutally difficult to play in squads with no communication. Lone wolf players still find it a struggle to access much of the high level content, simply because very little of it can be played alone. While LFG sites offer options for those who are feeling lonely, they certainly do not represent a panacea solution without problems.
As a gamer, I play a lot. Until the emergence of Destiny a year ago, the word casual seldom had negative connotations in gaming circles. Imagine being scolded for this in a public forum…the gaming equivalent of being dressed down for not studying for a test. Having sampled raids, I can give them a pass on this. They are not just difficult, but complex, requiring virtually everyone to be on a mic, or at least be listening to the team.
